Concertmonkey searing review of “Sweet Or Mean”

The opener is a searing blues rocker with fantastic fat slid work by Ted Horowitz in the lead role. Ted is pushing the song forward with its excellent gliding with the bottleneck... Eliza Neals has a classically trained voice, but with the grit of Janis Joplin and Koko Taylor in her voice, she manages to bring these ‘Pawn Shop blues’ to a powerful and convincing as a genuine rock singer.

I hope so my roots in Detroit may be with a turn in music school learning opera with all of it’s technical challenges. Rock n Roll is in my Soul singing and belting it out way before I even hit college. High school I was performing ACDC, The Runaways, Queen and more during prep rally’s. My friends would trip going I had no idea you could sing like that, lol.

Livin’ With Yo Mama ‘is a raw and raw blues song that is sung in a great way by Eliza Neals… She puts all her body, heart and soul in this number and in this way drives this number to a higher level. ‘Livin’ With Yo Mama ‘on this EP a typical twelve bar blues song in combination with irresistible fat slide work by Ted Horowitz and sublime rock riffs on the keys of Dave Keyes. The scorching slide solo by Ted is one of the highlights of the album, apart from the great voice of Eliza.

“Livin With Yo Mama “ started like this and yes it was raw then as it is raw now. Searing punch lines to make sure “that guy” knows you are not happy about him fibbing about his living situation. On ‘Messin with a Fool’ the song was changed by the producer. Finally here is the original version has been released with the musicians it deserves.

CONCERTMONKEY Belgium thanks for knowing what searing music sounds like.
